Honey Bourbon BBQ Sauce

Nothing dresses up ribs, chicken, or a burger like a homemade BBQ sauce, and this honey bourbon version is one of my favorites. Sweet honey, deep brown sugar, and a splash of bourbon simmer down into a glossy, smoky sauce that clings to whatever you brush it on — all in one pot in about half an hour.

Quick answer: Honey bourbon BBQ sauce comes together in one saucepan in about 30 minutes. Whisk everything together, simmer until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon, then brush it on during the last 10 minutes of grilling. Makes about 2 cups.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the bourbon cook out?

Yes — simmering for 20 minutes or more cooks off nearly all the alcohol, leaving just the deep, caramel-oak flavor behind.

Can I make it without bourbon?

Absolutely. Swap the bourbon for apple juice or an extra splash of apple cider vinegar for a family-friendly version.

How long does it keep?

Stored in an airtight container in the fridge, it keeps for up to 2 weeks, and it freezes well for up to 3 months.

What goes best with honey bourbon BBQ sauce?

It shines on pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken wings, and burgers, and it doubles as a dipping sauce.
