Welcome to Cousin Mike Cooks – Awesome Recipes and more 2 come :)
Who is Cousin Mike Cooks?
I’m an untrained, unorthodox chef who loves to cook but hates to follow directions (recipes.) I like to experiment and try new things, especially vegetarian and gluten free. I’m not a vegetarian (although I was for over a year) or gluten free but I like to make tasty things for everyone. Read on for recipes from Cousin Mike Cooks.
I grew up in great state of Vermont, in a log-cabin that my father built, on a dirt road and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I was fortunate to have two loving parents with awesome hobbies that rubbed off on me at an early age. My mother was a talented cook and would let me help her in the kitchen as a kid. My father was an incredibly handy man and an avid DIY’r who loved cars, motorcycles and most of all working on them. Guess that explains my obsession with cooking, DIY, cars and motorcycles 🙂
How I got the nickname “Cousin Mike”
When I was 14, my parents separated and later divorced. My father moved to New Jersey shortly after that and remarried a wonderful woman when I was 16. At their wedding, I met her nephew Chris. Chris and I immediately became best friends. We had tons in common. We were the same age, both liked cars, girls, and had been driving since we were 14 years old (long story for another day.)
Chris and I didn’t stay in touch after that first meeting but I planned a trip to New Jersey the next summer with two of my friends. We drove down and stayed with my Dad and his wife Donna. Chris and his friends took us out and showed us what New Jersey was like. Chris’ friends seemed larger-than-life to us Vermonters. They all played football, worked out and had big personalities. Chris always introduced me as his Cousin Mike.
I went to New Jersey the following summer as well. The time we spent time in Seaside Park and night clubs made me realize that I would move to New Jersey after school. Vermont, although beautiful, is a land locked state and seemed a decade behind Jersey. Besides, the girls in NJ were beautiful.
After moving to New Jersey, Chris and I became best friends and his group of friends became my friends as well. I never shook the nickname Cousin Mike. Today, Chris and I still introduce each other as cousins and then qualify that by saying “by marriage” or “Step Cousins.”
What’s this Blog About?
This blog will cover a lot more than just cooking and recipes. Although I have limited free time due to my work schedule, I have a wide range of hobbies and passions. This blog will most definitely go in a number of different directions, guaranteed. I may cover cars, car detailing, electronics, DIY projects, photography, digital marketing, watches, life hacks, floating and who knows what else 🙂
Recently, “Mid-2021” I started racing one of my own cars. I’ve been racing many times but in the past it was with BMW, Mini or Porsche and using their factory cars. I went to Pocono Raceway with my 2020 BMW X3M Competition and ran with a group called Hooked on Driving. I had a blast and quickly got hooked:) My X3MC was a bit of a handful in the tighter sections but I destroyed some unsuspecting Corvettes and Mustangs in the straightaways. I had so much fun I bought a M240i 6-speed 2WD for track use. Waiting for the limited slip differential (LSD) to arrive, then I’ll add some sticky tires and head to the track.
